- Medium establishing shot of room as he stands up to get paper from printer, held as he looks at paper and walks out of the room.

- RON kicks him and pushes him away, runs away

- When he asks where they are, quick pan to the left, over the shoulder shot in between the two of a big house

- Switches to medium shot of the two, RON pushes him out of frame and follows behind

- In AMY's house, over the shoulder shot of RON, KEVIN ahead of him

- During speech, different shots of KEVIN's friend standing at the side of the road, see what looks to be RON in the distance.

- Shot of KEVIN'S friend about to step onto the road, cuts to shot of KEVIN saying "stop it"

- Cut back to medium shot of ferry man closing over page

- Shot reverse shot of the two, but when he says "you know what?" quick cut back to KEVIN standing up

- KEVIN and RON turn around, cut to shot of their face, KEVIN doesn't look confused this time, 

- Cuts back to establishing shot, backs of KEVIN and RON in forefront of frame but see the view behind them.

- RON take out another page, medium shot of him, begins reading as KEVIN walks away, he stops.

- KEVIN walks over and sits close to camera, right side of frame.

- Focus changes as the two have dialogue, then close up on RON as he holds up envelope.

- Shot of KEVIN standing up and walking over to ron

- Shot reverse shot of them standing opposite each other.

- Camera stays on KEVIN, shot of paper he unfolds, pans up to RON's face as he looks from page to KEVIN.

- Extreme wide shot of KEVIN walking away from RON, KEVIN fades away, both silhouetted by light of sunset.

I have already watched several short films and while the genre and tone of each film can vary wildly due to the differences in application of certain devices, there are some core concepts that control how short films are structured and how they flow. As well as this, there are some conventions that are applied to the characters, settings and themes of these films, and often these differences are noticeable when looking at more conventional, feature length films. Firstly, I am going to look at characters. Often in short films, characters are not really developed aside from what is important to the plot of the film. Conventions of Short Films - Structure/Setting/Theme

While there are many short films out there that aim to portray a plethora of different themes, there are some conventions which generally these films adhere to, with a few edge case exceptions. As well as this, the structure and setting of short films are usually quite similar, due to the time and budget constraints that tend to affect short films. Once we scratch the surface of these films, we can determine a distinct set of conventions that most short films follow. Firstly, I am going to look at themes. There are so many themes that can be used in a short film. It may seem impossible to drill this area down into a convention or conventions. However when looking closer, we can see that a lot of films tend to use societal issues (racism, sexism, ableism, etc.) as a basis for the story.
